Anatomy for Yoga Workshop
with Yaron Carmel
Saturday, December 14, 2013 12:30-4:00 pm
When you flow into your upward facing dog, what’s the real effect on your spine? How does a forward bend impact the vibrancy of your kidneys? The subject of yoga is the self, and there’s no knowledge of the self without awareness of its biological fabric. In this entertaining, lively workshop, Yaron Carmel, certified Kinesis-Myofascial Integration (KMI) Structural Integration Practitioner and a seasoned Teacher, will help you optimize your yoga practice through an understanding of anatomy. Using hands-on exercises, Yaron shows how insight into the body’s mechanics can help you unlock your deepest physical potential. Keeping the focus on the practical application of bodywork to yoga, Yaron, will guide you through simple, effective techniques to avoid (or repair) injury and maximize your performance.
Workshop is great for yoga students and teachers! Join us!
Yaron Gal Carmel is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education provider, 450098-06, under Category A.

Yoga Assisting and Alignment Intensive
Saturday, Nov. 23rd & Sunday, Nov. 24th 12:30pm-4:00pm
Similar to your yoga practice, assisting is about presence, possibility, connection and action. It is not about forcing the perfect pose. It is about guidance and insight allowing the right pose to emerge for every body. Join us for the Yoga Assisting and Alignment (YAA) Intensive where you will learn about healthy alignment, key aspects of assisting, and how to assist in a direct, effective and safe manner. Completion of the YAA intensive is required for anyone interested in becoming a yoga classroom assistant. Yoga Alliance credits available.
In this very interactive hands-on workshop, we will explore different approaches for assisting and how to physically and energetically work with others. Come prepared to work on your mat and with the other participants. We will review alignment and how to correct asana without taking away from a student’s self-exploration of the pose. The intensive will also build a community of peers that will support your growth and learning.
This program is designed for students and teachers of all levels of experience. The YAA Intensive is suitable for:
◊ Anyone who loves the practice and wants to learn more
◊ Those seeking to understand proper alignment of yoga poses

Taking Knowledge to the Mat
with Karen Fabian
Saturday, November 2, 2013 12:30-4:30 pm
Join Karen Fabian, Certified/ Registered Yoga teacher for an exploration of the key anatomical landmarks, muscles, bones and joints at work in the body. Actions of all of these components will be emphasized both to understand how safe action in the body is created, how imbalance can occur and how length and strength in the body depends on an understanding of these components. The information will then be applied to several key poses in yoga. This exploration will improve your alignment, increase your understanding of what goes on “underneath the skin”, help you practice with greater integrity, which all leads to greater strength and stability in your poses. Practical examples of anatomy in action will be included.
Karen has a background in physical therapy and has studied anatomy as part of her background as a teacher. She teaches anatomy to yoga teachers in various trainings around Boston and as part of her own Teacher Mentorship Program. She has been teaching yoga since 2002.
Yoga Teachers: Karen is an Experienced Registered Yoga teacher so participation in this workshop can be used towards your CEU requirement with Yoga Alliance.

In fitness, balance is everything. The ONLY bootcamp of its kind by alternating between a powerful bootcamp session twice a week on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 12:30pm-1:30pm and HYL—yoga classes on Mondays & Wednesdays. Instead of pushing trainees through four punishing, grueling workouts in a week THIS bootcamp is balanced. During bootcamp days emphasize on sweating and elevating the heart rate through squats, lunges, jumping jacks, pushups and sprints; Type 1 muscle fiber workout emphasizing our mirror muscles (the ones to admire in the mirror). Then recover, rest and reprogram the body in non-explosive yoga classes to strengthen your Type 2 musculature, improve flexibility and lengthen the muscles.
In a typical bootcamp strength and fitness gains are achieved but are not optimal. They are designed to be hard so that we feel the burn and feel that we’ve gotten a great workout. The body will adapt to the imposed demands of the bootcamp workout, but will not gain in muscle elasticity, mind body awareness or Type 2 muscle fiber strength. The body needs to recover, a day off, to fully reap the rewards of a hard workout. The end result, after a month, will be strong, balanced bodies and minds. The alternating sessions will complement each other seamlessly. Go from plateau to peak in 30 days with a combination of strength, muscle tone and flexibility. SPACE IS EXTREMELY LIMITED! Register Today!

Soma System: Refine Your Yoga Practice with Self Bodywork
with Roman Torgovitsky, PhD
Saturday, 06.01.2013 12:30pm-4:00pm
Tight hips? Cranky shoulders? Contemporary neuroscience research tells us that muscle tightness takes a toll on every part of our lives. It causes suboptimal physical performance, which compromises asana practice and athletics, and it agitates the mind, which hinders sleep and meditation. Melt away tightness with three and a half hours of deep tissue Soma System practice–a holistic self-bodywork method that fuses movement and meditation with the use of specially-designed tools. Your body will feel stronger and more pliable as muscle tightness releases, and your mind will feel balanced and more tranquil. SPECIAL BONUS: This introductory workshop will begin with a special ten minute Yoga Assessment(TM)–led by Vyda Bielkus–designed to help you detect and assess areas of tightness and restriction. We’ll return to the same Yoga Assessment (TM) at the end of the workshop, thus allowing you to intentionally sense and re-assess how your body has changed over the course of the afternoon.
Roman Torgovitsky, PhD is internal martial arts practitioner, structural bodyworker, Harvardtrained biomedical researcher and creator of the Soma SystemTM.
