Taking Knowledge to the Mat

Join Karen Fabian, Certified/ Registered Yoga teacher for an exploration of the key anatomical landmarks, muscles, bones and joints at work in the body. Actions of all of these components will be emphasized both to understand how safe action in the body is created, how imbalance can occur and how length and strength in the body depends on an understanding of these components. The information will then be applied to several key poses in yoga. This exploration will improve your alignment, increase your understanding of what goes on “underneath the skin”, help you practice with greater integrity, which all leads to greater strength and stability in your poses. Practical examples of anatomy in action will be included.
Karen has a background in physical therapy and has studied anatomy as part of her background as a teacher. She teaches anatomy to yoga teachers in various trainings around Boston and as part of her own Teacher Mentorship Program. She has been teaching yoga since 2002.

In fitness, balance is everything. The ONLY bootcamp of its kind by alternating between a powerful bootcamp session twice a week on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 12:30pm-1:30pm and HYL—yoga classes on Mondays & Wednesdays. Instead of pushing trainees through four punishing, grueling workouts in a week THIS bootcamp is balanced. During bootcamp days emphasize on sweating and elevating the heart rate through squats, lunges, jumping jacks, pushups and sprints; Type 1 muscle fiber workout emphasizing our mirror muscles (the ones to admire in the mirror). Then recover, rest and reprogram the body in non-explosive yoga classes to strengthen your Type 2 musculature, improve flexibility and lengthen the muscles.
In a typical bootcamp strength and fitness gains are achieved but are not optimal. They are designed to be hard so that we feel the burn and feel that we’ve gotten a great workout. The body will adapt to the imposed demands of the bootcamp workout, but will not gain in muscle elasticity, mind body awareness or Type 2 muscle fiber strength. This one hour and a half introductory course explains: • How meditation helps eliminate daily stress • How we developed our patterns of behavior • Why those patterns are so difficult to break • The impact of your past and how it is directing your future • How you created an ego-identity to survive in this world • How to meditate (10 min guided meditation)
For nearly a decade, Andy Kelley has helped ordinary people like himself learn to detach and recharge. He studied under Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. David Simon, co-founders of The Chopra Center – both renowned experts in the field of mind-body medicine, and David Ji, Dean of The Chopra Center. Andy is currently a certified instructor of Primordial Sound Meditation for The Chopra Center. He is also a graduate of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School. Andy has worked with companies such as Hill Holliday, Thomson Reuters and B2B Gateway among others. He has also worked with The Milton Public Schools and Milton Academy. Andy Kelley’s mantra is Meditation for Everyone. He teaches everyday people how to meditate so they can be more productive in their careers and happier in their lives.

We will then engage with a meditation specifically designed to dissolve our energetic blocks so that we can live with PROSPERITY and ease. Wrapping up the workshop Gurunam will lead us in Kirtan guiding us all into a place of healing and PEACE.

Vyda Bielkus is a co-founder of Health Yoga Life, an E-RYT 500 hour Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher and a Health Yoga Life coach. As a yoga teacher, Vyda inspires students to see yoga and meditation as the ultimate self-care routine on their journey to optimal living and health.
