Take Care of Your Skin and Hair while Sleeping

A good night’s sleep can do so much for brightening your skin and hair, but so can the right nighttime routines. Protect your hair and skin from damage while you sleep with the following care tips.

Skincare Tips Before Bed

A skincare routine before bed not only gives you glowing skin but also relaxes your mind and body. Get ready for bed with these skincare tips:

Wash Your Face, Then Do It Again

Our faces put up with a lot throughout the day. By the time the day is over, we have makeup, dirt, oil, and dead skin cell buildup on our faces. You don’t want to go to bed with all of that on your face because, if you do, you could wake up with blemishes and irritated skin from clogged pores.

Double-cleanse by washing with an oil-based soap, then follow with a gentler water-based cleanser. This method will ensure you remove all the day’s impurities from your face, leading to healthier, brighter skin.

Hydrate Your Skin

Your skin is more permeable during the night than throughout the day. What does this mean? It means your skin will absorb more skincare products during the night than during the day. It also means your skin will lose its hydration while you sleep.

At night, you should apply heavier moisturizers. Skincare experts often recommend a retinol serum for smoother, oil-free skin. You can use products with antioxidants to repair the damage done to your skin during the day. They also recommend applying an oil or cream to seal in moisture.

Take a Supplement

Before hopping into bed, take a sleep-supporting supplement with magnesium. It helps you get the sleep your body needs, which in turn allows your skin to go through all the cycles it needs to repair damages. You’ll be left with smooth and glowing skin.

Alternatively, you can take a supplement targeted for skin health, such as one with Vitamin E, Vitamin C, or Calcium. Talk with your doctor before starting a supplement plan.

Drink Water

The best way to keep your skin adequately hydrated is to drink water throughout your day and before you go to bed. If you go to bed thirsty, your skin will, too.

Practice Yoga for Clear Skin

Because stress will show itself on your face, it’s important to relieve your tension for glowing skin. If you’re struggling with skin problems that don’t seem to be touched with products, try a holistic approach by eating healthy, staying hydrated, and keeping fit.

Relieve stress for healthier skin with yoga. Get your blood flowing for a bright face. Sit in Sukhasana and breathe deeply for an eased mind. Meditate to reduce the fire within your body and come to a more relaxed state. For more stress-relieving ideas, check out this article on Yoga Journal. Hair Care Tips for Nighttime

The health of your hair relies heavily on how you care for it at night. Don’t ruin your daytime hair care routine with poor nighttime practices. Take care of your hair while you’re sleeping with these tips:

Loosely Tie Your Hair Back

Keeping your hair in a loose braid, ponytail, or bun can prevent knots, breakage, and frizziness. Just make sure your hair isn’t pulled back too tightly, which can cause traction alopecia. Use a scrunchie to tie your hair back so your hair doesn’t pull on your scalp.

Don’t Sleep with Wet Hair

Wet hair is more fragile than dry hair. If you go to bed with a wet head, you could increase the chances of your hair breaking and falling out. Be sure to dry your hair before bed if you shower at night.

Moisturize with a Hair Serum or Oil Treatment

Treat your hair with overnight hair serums or oil. These products can strengthen and soften hair follicles and promote hair growth. Oils also protect against physical damage to your scalp and hair shaft as you sleep.

Supporting Healthy Skin and Hair During Sleep

A daily nighttime routine focused on caring for your skin and hair while you sleep helps you get strong, healthy skin and hair. Both your hair and skin go through repairing and reinforcement stages during sleep. Support your body’s rejuvenation process by implementing the proper nighttime skincare and hair care regimens.
