Incorporating Essential Oils into Your Everyday Life

Essential oils can be used so many ways throughout your everyday life, but it can be overwhelming trying to decide which oils to use, and what to use them for. We’ve compiled some ways you can easily incorporate essential oils into your everyday life to help boost your mood, increase energy, or help you get a good night’s rest.

In the morning

One of the easiest ways to incorporate oils into your day is simply by smelling them! You can keep bottles next to your bed and when you wake up, take a few good whiffs. Energizing oils that can help you to have a good day are citrus oils like lemon, orange and grapefruit, peppermint, rosemary, and clove. You can either choose one or mix some together in a blend.

Need a new scent? Mix a few of your favorite oils together and put them in a roller. Add some to your pulse points, and behind your ears before you leave the house and bring the good vibes with you!

During the day

If you’re still working from home, a great way to use essential oils is with a diffuser. You’ll fill the diffuser with water and add a few drops of oil to make your space smell amazing. Use oils like sage, basil, or bergamot to help with your mood and get you through the day. If you have pets, just be careful, because some essential oils can be harmful.

One of the best ways to incorporate essential oils into your routine is use them in your cleaning routine:

  • For a great all-purpose cleaner, mix ¼ cup white vinegar with 1 ¾ cups of water and 30 drops of essential oils. You can use one, or a blend. Lemon and orange are great, as are tea tree, peppermint, and eucalyptus.
  • Got a gross sink? Mix ¼ cup vinegar with 5 drops of lemon essential oil, and 2 tablespoons of witch hazel into a spray bottle. Spray your sink with the mixture, and then sprinkle baking soda over the area you just sprayed. Scrub and rinse!
  • Then there is our favorite gentle yoga mat and floor cleaner, which is just a few drops of tea tree oil mixed with water. Make sure to shake before you use, so the oil doesn’t separate.

Before bed

For sweet dreams, mix essential oils like lavender, geranium, and Roman Chamomile with ½ cup of witch hazel in a spray bottle for a super easy pillow spray. Have kids that are scared of monsters? You can label the bottle as Monster Go Away Spray and spray the monsters away!

For the ideal bedtime routine, spray your pillow or meditation cushion with your nighttime spray, and then settle in for even five minutes of meditation. You can either meditate with a mantra, or by counting your breaths, in and out. Some people also find guided meditation apps, or sound apps can be helpful. Check out our post with on setting up a home meditation space. Just picture it: You’ve sprayed your pillow with a blend of Lavender and Roman Chamomile, the lights are off, you’re playing soft music or rain sounds in the background, and you let yourself completely reset for five or even twenty minutes. Studies show that it’s not the length of time you meditate, but your consistency that will help you reap the benefits. Essential oils can help you look forward to your daily meditation and keep a consistent practice.
