Power Up Your Third Chakra

Your third chakra, your solar plexus chakra is all about personal power, motivation, and self-esteem. When your third chakra is blocked, you can have digestive issues, struggling to set personal boundaries, lack of motivation, and low self-esteem. Here are a few ways you can power up your third chakra to increase your warrior energy, find motivation, and increase your personal power.

What is your solar plexus chakra?

For some more info on all seven chakras, you can check out our previous post. Your third chakra is associated with the color yellow, the element fire, and is located right above your navel, and travels up your breastbone. If energy is freely flowing through this chakra, you will feel confident and assertive, as well as motivated and have a sense of purpose. You’ll also experience good digestion.

Diet to energize your third chakra

Since your solar plexus chakra is associated with digestion, there are a few ways you can help energize this chakra. Eat yellow foods, such as bananas, lemons, yellow bell peppers, or cheese, and add spices like ginger and chamomile to your dishes, or drink as warm tea. Try to avoid overly hot or iced beverages, and stay away from alcohol, and snacking between meals. Let your stomach rest and calm down in between meals.

Solar plexus chakra meditation

There are a number of different ways you can work on healing your solar plexus chakra with meditation. The first, and easiest, is to sit or lay in a comfortable position and visualize the area where the third chakra is located. Imagine a warm, healing yellow light glowing in that area, healing all that it touches.

Take your meditation up a level by going outside in the sunshine. Since your solar plexus chakra is associated with the sun, and fire, this can be a great way to energize this chakra.

You might also find that essential oils and crystals can help with your meditation. You can use a few drops in your lotion, or a carrier oil like coconut oil and rub into your hands and breathe deep. Good oils to use are black pepper, ginger, peppermint, or any citrus oil. Any yellow gem can also be used to enhance your meditation. Think yellow topaz or tiger eye stones. If your gem is small enough, you can hold it in your palm and focus on it as you meditate. You could lay on your stomach and place the stones in the solar plexus area. If your stone is larger, simply sit or lay near it as you meditate.

Yoga poses to power up your third chakra

Yoga poses to energize your solar plexus chakra are those that help you feel strong and confident.

-Plank pose: This is a pose we do a lot of in our sun salutations, but it’s sometimes a pose that we go through quickly to get through the flow. See what happens if you pause in plank pose and just breathe. Keep your wrists stacked under your shoulders and your butt down, creating one long line from head to toe.

-Warrior I and II: Both of these poses will definitely help you feel confident and grounded. For Warrior I, stand with your back foot at around a 45-degree angle and your front foot straight. Bend your front knee while keeping your back knee straight, and keeping your hips squared. Raise both arms while keeping your shoulders down. For Warrior II, you can go right from your Warrior I pose by sliding your back foot from the 45-degree angle toward more 90 degrees. Stretch the same arm as your front foot out in front of you, palms facing down, and your back arm away from you. Find a steady spot to fix your gaze, your Drishti, and look across your front fingertips. Sink into the pose and inhale, feeling your energy flow.

Boat Pose: This can be a challenging pose for a lot of yogis, but the more you work on it, the more confident you will become. Start sitting on your mat with your feet on the ground. Lean back and raise your feet while straightening your legs, while keeping your arms outstretched beside your legs. If this is too much, you can bend your legs, or even clasp your thighs to lower the intensity. Don’t forget to breathe!
